At this price range, Wide Sands Beach Retreat is a real gem. The hotel opened in March 2020, and the spacious rooms are a notch up in design, quality and comfort when compared with most others in Yeh Sumbul.

What's the appeal?

 

There is a range of rooms but all are attractively decorated, with cool tiles and local fabrics offering a design element that is often missing in other properties at this price range. The swimming pool out front and the nicely designed Joglo-style restaurant are appealing and the beach front seating-area (with its own cocktail bar) is one of the most enticing sundowner spots in the area. The outlook onto a wild empty beach that stretches for miles in each direction makes this a stay here an unforgettable experience.

Rooms

 

There are 14 rooms – book one upstairs if you’d like to enjoy lovely views over the rice paddies. All rooms have private bathrooms with (hot water) showers, aircon, tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. The biggest suites also have a TV, sofa and bathtub. Breakfast is included in the price – you’ll get coffee or tea and a choice of pancake, mie goreng, nasi goreng, eggs and toast, cereal and a fruit platter.

Facilities

 

The cocktail bar and restaurant (specialising in fresh sea food) is beautifully designed and appealing. Surfboards and motorbikes are available for rent and the helpful staff can advise and arrange transport and tours.

Location

 

Wide Sands is located on the beach in Yeh Sumbul – walk 1.5km east along the beach and you’ll get to the surf point at Medewi. If your intention is to get away from it all then this property – and the wild beach it fronts onto – might be the perfect option. The surf on this (sandy) part of the beach makes for a less challenging option for beginners.
